สิงโตกับหนู
คราวหนึ่ง เมื่อสิงโตตัวหนึ่งนอนหลับอยู่ หนูเล็กๆ ตัวหนึ่งได้เริ่มวิ่งขึ้นวิ่งลงบนสิงโตตัวนั้น ด้วยเหตุนี้ ไม่ช้าไม่นานสิงโตก็ตื่น และเอาอุ้งมือขนาดใหญ่ตะปบมันไว้ พร้อมอ้าปากกว้างเตรียมขยอกกลืน "ขออภัยโทษเถิดท่านเจ้าป่า หนูตัวเล็กกล่าวเสียงดังฟังชัด ยกโทษให้ข้าพเจ้าสักครั้ง แล้วข้าพเจ้าจะไม่ลืมบุญคุณของท่านเลย ใครจะรู้ ได้ว่าสักวันหนึ่งข้าพเจ้าอาจตอบแทนท่านได้ สิงโตขำมาก เมื่อได้ฟังความคิดของหนู ว่าสามารถจะช่วยตนได้ จึงยกอุ้งมือ (เท้าหน้า) ออกเพื่อปล่อยหนูไป หลังจากนั้นมานานพอดู สิงโตตัวนั้น (บังเอิญ) ไปติดกับดัก (ของนายพราน) เข้า ฝ่ายนายพรานซึ่งปรารถนาจะนำไปเป็นๆเพื่อถวายพระราขา จึงช่วยกันผูกมันไว้กับต้นไม้ต้นหนึ่ง แล้วพวกเขาก็ไปหารถมาบรรทุก เพื่อบรรทุกมันไป ขณะนั้นเจ้าหนูน้อยบังเอิญผ่านมา และแลเห็นสภาพอันน่าเศร้าของสิงโต จึงเดินเข้าไปใกล้สิงโต แล้วกัดแทะเชือก ที่มัดราขาแห่งสัตว์ป่านั้นกระจุยไป.
The Lion and the Mouse
